AT&T to Expand Hosting, Reports Say
Tuesday, August 09, 2005
AT&T (att.com) is set to launch a managed utility computing service later this year, according to reported comments made by the company's executives.
The company says the service, based on Sun Microsystems hardware, will be one of several improvements AT&T is planning for its hosting services.
Mike Jenner, vice president of hosting and application management services for AT&T, said in reports that the service will enable businesses to scale their computing requirements up and down based on demand.
Jenner also said that the company would introduce server virtualization for its hosting clients. Like the utility computing service, Jenner says, server virtualization will give customers the ability to quickly provision services while not having to invest in hardware.
